The usual trouble with a paper tab book

12 customers owe ₺8,400 in totalOn the 1st of every month

How much are you owed in total?

The notebook is full of names, but nobody knows the total. Çetele adds up what each customer still owes and what you're owed overall; the biggest debt sits at the top.

Payment taken · ₺300Still owed ₺135

A payment came in; where does it go?

Part payments get squeezed into the margin and the sums stop adding up. “Take payment” takes it off the debt and puts the cash in the till; a mistake can be undone.

Remind on WhatsAppHello Ayşe Yılmaz, our book shows ₺435 on your tab…

Asking for the money feels awkward

A ready message makes it easy to ask without offending anyone. On the customer's page, “Remind on WhatsApp” opens a polite draft with their name and the amount; nothing is sent until you send it.

How it works

Just like a tab book: customer, debt, payment. Çetele does the sums.

  1. 1

    Add the customer

A name and phone number are enough; you can pick them from your contacts. If they already owe you, enter it as their earlier debt.

  2. 2

Sell on credit, or add to the tab

Turn on “On credit” when you record a sale and pick the customer; the stock goes down and the amount goes on their tab. No time for items? “Add to tab”: 3 items, ₺135.

  3. 3

    Take payment

When they pay, “Take payment”: it comes off the debt and goes into the till. You can't take more than they owe.

  4. 4

    Remind

Set a payment day and you get a notification that morning. Remind them on WhatsApp with a ready message.

What your tab book tells you

  • Who owes what, biggest debt first; “Owes money” shows only them.
  • What you're owed in one figure, and a notification on the 1st of every month with how many customers owe how much.
  • Each customer's credit sales, tab entries and payments in date order.
  • Your staff can sell on credit but don't see the debts; only you and managers who see money do.
  • A credit sale counts in that day's takings but reaches the till only when it's paid, so your till isn't overstated.
  • Your credit list in Excel comes across in one go, customers and what they owe.

Questions

Is the customer credit book free?

Yes. Adding customers, selling on credit, taking payments and sending reminders are free in Çetele, with no limit on customers. The till balance, costs, profit and reports are free for every new business's first 40 entries, then continue with Çetele Pro.

How do I move the debts from my notebook?

When you add a customer, enter what they owe so far under “Earlier debt (from your notebook)”; later payments come off it. If your list is in Excel or Google Sheets, More → Import from Excel brings customers and their debts across in one go, and you see every row before saving.

How do I remind a customer what they owe?

On the customer's page, “Remind on WhatsApp” opens a ready message with their name and the amount; it isn't sent until you send it. Give the customer a payment day and you get a notification at 08:00 that morning. On the 1st of each month you're told what you're owed in total.

Can my staff sell on credit?

Yes. Everyone on the team can sell on credit and add to a tab, and sees the customer and their last sale; only you and managers who see money see the amounts owed. Adding new people to the team needs Çetele Pro.

I work by appointment; can clients pay later?

Yes. In hair and nail salons, barbers or skin care, you mark a visit as “Pays later”; the amount goes on the client's tab and not into the till. When they pay, “Take payment” settles it.
