Free stock tracking Excel template
In this template you list each item once, then enter every purchase, use, sale and waste as one row. Stock on hand, the daily average of the last 30 days and how many days the stock will last are worked out by formulas; an item below its reorder level says “Order now”. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers.

Frequently asked questions
How do you track stock in Excel?
Keep items on one sheet and every movement (purchase, use, sale, waste) as rows on another. Stock is what came in minus what went out, which SUMIF or SUMIFS formulas add up per item. In this template the formulas are ready: you type the movements and stock and days left update themselves.
How is “days left” worked out?
The template adds up what was used and sold in the last 30 days and divides by 30 for a daily average, then divides stock by that average. If nothing was used in the last 30 days it doesn't guess: the cell stays empty rather than showing a made-up number.
Does this template work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the file to Google Drive and choose “Open with → Google Sheets”; the formulas and dropdowns work. You can also open it in the Google Sheets app on your phone, or in Numbers on a Mac.
Spreadsheet or stock app?
For a few items and one person, a spreadsheet is enough. If your team records too, if you want to type at the counter on your phone, or you want unit cost and price-rise impact as well, an app saves time. Our stock tracking guide compares them side by side.
